The Planet that Most Resembles the Earth

By: Habiba Tamer

I have always wondered is there a planet similar to Earth? Yes, there is. Is it a planet that we don’t know? No, it’s the planet which many people believed that we can live on one day which is planet ‘Mars’.

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the second-smallest planet in the Solar system after Mercury.

Mars is located between Earth and Jupiter and it is believed that it will eventually collide with the planet.

Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere composed primarily of carbon dioxide.

Mars has two Moons: Phobos and Deimos.

Mars is named after a mythological figure “The Roman God Of War”. It’s official name, Mars is sometimes called the Red Planet because of the brownish- red color of its surface.

A Martin day is just over 24 hours, and it’s rotation axis is tilted by about the same amount as Earth’s. Most interestingly, it is thought that at some point in Mars’ past, it may have included liquid water on its surface, just as Earth does now. This leads some people to suspect that Mars may have once harbored life.

Sounds on Mars: Sound waves need an atmospheric medium through which to travel, many people are surprised to learn that any sounds at all can be heard on Mars.

The atmospheric pressure on the surface of the Red planet is small, amounting to less than 1 percent of Earth’s sea level pressure.

Weather on Mars: Mars is cold, it’s average global temperature is around -80 degrees Fahrenheit and has a much thinner atmosphere than Earth, because it has about a sixth of the pressure of Earth’s atmosphere. The planet doesn’t retain heat very long, causing temperatures to drop quickly.

Living on Mars: Human survival on Mars would require living in artificial Mars habitats with complex life-support systems. One key aspect of this would be water processing systems. Being made mainly of water, a human being would die in a matter of days without it.

Now, we have all the details we want to know about the planet that most resembles the Earth, hope you enjoyed reading the deets and knowing more about planet Mars.
